Do We Take Insurance?

Insurance and Personalized Medicine

Most people rarely separate their medical care from their insurance coverage, it’s just how we’ve been taught to think about healthcare. But this mindset can quietly restrict your options. When every decision depends on what insurance will cover, you may overlook more proactive, personalized approaches of care designed not just to manage illness, but to optimize your overall health and well-being.

Concierge personalized medicine turns that model on its head. By focusing on root-cause understanding, prevention and individual risk factors, this approach gives you time, attention, and tailored strategies that traditional care often can’t provide. While insurance remains an essential safety net for emergencies and major medical needs, it doesn’t have to define the boundaries of your care or your potential for lasting health.

Why Insurance May Limit Your Healthcare Options

Health insurance plans typically fall into one of three main categories:

- HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) – Lower costs but more restrictions on provider choice

- PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations) – More flexibility but higher costs

- High-Deductible Health Plans – Lower monthly premiums but higher out-of-pocket expenses

While these plans differ in cost and structure, they all share one key feature: the insurer defines your “benefits.” In other words, your coverage is pre-determined by contracts between insurance providers and health systems.

What Does This Mean For You?

It means your choices are limited. You can only see certain providers, at certain times, under specific conditions—and sometimes only after your insurance company approves them.

Why Concierge Medicine Often Works Better

In the traditional insurance model, physicians are required to see a high number of patients each day—leaving little time for meaningful, individualized care. Appointments can feel rushed, impersonal and scheduling follow-ups may mean waiting weeks or even months to be seen again.

At Kemper Cognitive Wellness, our concierge model removes those barriers. Because we work directly with our patients instead of insurance companies, our physicians can spend more time with you, listening, learning your story, and understanding your cognitive and overall health goals. This approach allows for more thoughtful conversations, timely appointments and a collaborative plan designed specifically for you. The result is a deeper connection, better communication, improved results and care that moves at your pace, not the system’s.

Using Out of Network Benefits

Some insurance plans offer out-of-network reimbursement, meaning they may reimburse you for care received outside their contracted network.

At Kemper Cognitive Wellness, we can provide superbills (detailed receipts with the appropriate medical codes) that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement for services such as physician time, lab work or diagnostic testing.

While reimbursement isn’t guaranteed, many clients find it worthwhile to submit claims. Keep in mind that out-of-network deductibles and reimbursement rates vary by plan, so it’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider in advance.

Using HSA/FSA/HRA Accounts for Concierge Care

If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), you may be able to use these pre-tax dollars for your personalized care.

In most cases, doctor visits, lab work, and certain diagnostic tests qualify for HSA, FSA or HRA spending. Supplements, cognitive testing and specialty lab panels may also be eligible depending on your plan.

We encourage you to confirm details with your plan administrator but many of our clients successfully use HSA, FSA or HRA funds to pay for their care at Kemper Cognitive Wellness.

The Truth of the Matter

Insurance remains an essential part of your personal finances, but it shouldn’t define the quality of care you receive. Concierge personalized medicine allows your care team to focus on what matters most: YOU.

At Kemper Cognitive Wellness, we believe exceptional, personalized care should also be accessible. Our concierge model offers several flexible payment options designed to fit your needs and budget. Whether you’re beginning your wellness journey or continuing ongoing support, our team can walk you through available plans, including monthly programs and options for using HSA, FSA or HRA funds.

Until the insurance system evolves to better support prevention and personalization, practices like Kemper Cognitive Wellness are here to bridge the gap offering an elevated, patient-first model designed to help you live well, think clearly, and stay independent.
